Safety Corner: Heaty Safety & Safe Driving Awareness
August is one of the hottest months of the year, making heat safety a top priority on our jobsites. It’s also National Traffic Awareness Month, a reminder to stay vigilant on and off the road—especially important for construction crews working near live traffic and operating heavy equipment.
Heat Safety on the Jobsite:
Working outdoors in high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke if precautions aren’t taken. Follow these tips:
- Hydrate regularly – drink water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty.
- Take scheduled breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use cooling towels if available.
- Know the signs of heat-related illness—dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, and confusion—and report symptoms immediately.
Driving & Traffic Safety:
Whether you’re transporting equipment or commuting to a jobsite, safety behind the wheel is essential.
- Stay alert and eliminate distractions—no texting or using devices while driving.
- Follow all posted speed limits, especially in construction zones.
- Use spotters and mirrors when backing up or maneuvering around active jobsites.
- Be cautious of other drivers, especially near work zones with reduced visibility or lane changes.
By staying aware of these seasonal risks and practicing good safety habits daily, we protect not only ourselves, but our team and the communities we serve.
Let’s keep safety at the forefront—every task, every day.
